Today I achieved the first, of many, goals for this year. I did my first fun run!
Before I got pregnant with my son I classed myself as a runner, but hadn't actually done any runs. I lost all of my fitness during the pregnancy, and 5 years later I am still struggling.
When my son was about 2, my husband and I did the City 2 Surf. At the time most of my friends were like "why???". None of them ran. Now 3 do. Why didn't they decide to do this years ago?
So today my bestie and I did the Color Run. I went better than expected, but I still would have liked to do better.
I started nice and slow with a good pace, made it almost 2 kms and hit the first color station. Great fun! But I'm asthmatic. Even though I tried to hold my breathe I ended up inhaling a pretty blue cloud of dust.
And struggled! I've just gotten over a really nasty cough, so it didn't help. Each station just added to the damage until I dropped to a fast walk.
At the end I ended up doing under 9 min kilometers, the best I have achieved since I started running again last winter. So definitely an improvement.
Next time I'm going to take a mask to wear through the stations. And yes there will be a next time.
Contemplating a Spartan in April (7kms and obstacles through mud). Hopefully I can further improve my mileage in the next few weeks.
